Third Grade:  Patti Ditch

My name is Patti Ditch and I have been the third grade teacher at Sacred Heart School since 1983.  I graduated from Mt. Mercy College with a degree in elementary education, and have 40 plus hours in graduate credit.  I became a teacher because of my desire to inspire children to become the best they can be.  I felt it was the perfect way to truly touch the lives of children, and to instill in them a life-long love of learning.

My husband and I have four daughters, who completed their elementary education here at Sacred Heart School.  We also have five grandchildren.

My interests involve my family, sewing, crossword puzzles, and outdoor projects.  Two little known facts about me are that while I was in college, I studied at a castle in Europe for four months, and that my entire education has been in Catholic schools.

Fourth Grade:  Melanie Delaney

My name is Melanie Delaney.  I am the 4th grade teacher at Sacred Heart School, having joined the staff in August 1988.  I graduated from the University of Dubuque in May 1988 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education, along with a certification in Psychology.  I am certified to teach K-8th grade education and psychology.

I grew up in Cascade and now live between Cascade and Dubuque with my husband and two step-children.  I also have three wonderful granddaughters.

The things I like most about teaching in a Catholic school are the small class sizes, the family like atmosphere, and that gospel values are infused throughout the curriculum.  In my free time I enjoy spending time with family and friends, reading, being outside in warm weather, and traveling.

Sixth Grade:  Michelle Lanham

My name is Michelle Lanham and I currently teach 6th grade at Sacred Heart School.  I have been teaching at Sacred Heart School since 2001.  I also coach volleyball, basketball, and softball at Maquoketa High School.  I am involved with teaching 8th grade CCD, and have taught youth ministry in the past.

I graduated from Maquoketa High School in 1996, and the University of Northern Iowa in 2000 with a B.A. in Elementary Education with a minor in history.

I enjoy spending time with friends and family on the weekends, shopping, reading and watching old movies.  In the summertime, I like to go camping, hiking, fishing, and tubing down the Maquoketa River.

My biggest passion for teaching is making learning fun, hands-on, and retainable.  I try to instill life skills to each one of my students and make them accountable for everything they do.  The 6th grade students have many responsibilities in the classroom and therefore have ownership for their school and parish.
